DESCRIPTION:The Women and girls in the Maasai community disproportionately face a diverse range of sociocultural and environmental challenges like; FGM\, teenage pregnancies and child marriages\, sexual assault\, Climate hazards\, under representation in leadership\, politics and employment\, disinheritance\, and discrimination. In light of this. there is a need to have a discussion around “telling her story”. Dada Digital Initiative has taken the challenge to fill the gap. \nBy “telling her story” we are trying to reach as many people as possible with information and topical issues around women with an aim to bring to light the plight of women from underserved communities with a view to empower and uplift them. This is in line with Sustainable Development Goal number 5 which seeks to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by 2030. \nKajiado West Sub County\, specifically Magadi Ward is leading in school dropouts and young girls are not able to continue with education due to period poverty contributing to high rates of teenage pregnancies. In March this year\, The Kenya Human Rights Commission issued a red card to Kajiado County among others with highest per capita teenage pregnancies in Kenya at 21.8% (KHRC RED CARD 2024) \nAbout 444 girls drop out of school every year due to teenage pregnancy. Challenges regarding access to menstrual products are rampant and are linked to girls dropping out of school\, teenage pregnancy\, early marriages and FGM. This risks the young girls well-being by increasing the statistics of teenage pregnancy highlighting the urgent call for action. \nResponding to this problem\, Dada Digital Initiative together with other stakeholders has organized a drive dubbed DADA PADS DRIVE aimed at collecting and distributing sanitary towels to school going girls and women around the Naserian Primary School community. Although this will not totally eradicate the period poverty\, it is a step in the right direction to not only create awareness but also meet some of the needs in that community. \nAs the world marks this year’s INTERNTIONAL MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY\, on 28th May\, We plan to hold the DADA PADS DRIVE event at Naserian Primary School. The project is targeting two schools\, Naserian Primary School and Eroret Primary and Junior Secondary schools in Magadi Ward. We target 100 girls from both schools and about 100 women from the community. \nWe plan to create awareness on period poverty\, distribute books and some reading material and have talks to mentor the young girls to encourage them to focus on their education and not succumb to early marriages and teenage pregnancy. \nThe project’s objectives: \n\nBreak the taboos and end stigma surrounding menstruation.\nEnd Period poverty\nRaise awareness about the challenges regarding access to menstrual products and education about menstruation.\nMobilize resources required for action at scale.\n\nThrough these efforts\, Dada Digital is committed to making a tangible difference to the overarching goal which is to build a world where no one is held back because they menstruate by 2030. \nTo make this event a success\, Dada Digital Initiative\, invites support from partners and well-wishers. DESCRIPTION:We partnered with Kajiado County and it marked a significant stride by celebrating the global initiative ” 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence”. \nIn line with the theme: UNITE!” Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”\, the County Department medical and public health services together with partners and community launched a SGBV recovery Center ( Nasaruni Centre)\, this was a re- affirming commitment by the County Government of Kajiado in prevention and response to SGBV. \nThe 16 days of Activism serve not only as a symbolic period but as a catalyst for ongoing efforts to build a society rooted in equality and justice for all.

DESCRIPTION:We joined Naretu Maa Community Organization in the launch of the Maasai Cultural Village at Esonurua Community in Kisamis location\, Kajiado West Sub County. \nThe Maasai community are known for their rich cultural tradition\, however they are faced with many challenges characterized by persistence of retrogressive practices. \nNancy Milanoi the Founder\, Naretu Maa Community Organization felt the urge to help her community come out and of the shackles of harmful traditional practices and culture. \nShe is doing this by taking the positive use of traditional cultural norms to preserve their cultural practices and promote tourism for both the community and at the County level. \nThe Emanyattas will help the community promote tourism by preserving the cultural heritage and also be source of generating income for the community youth serving as dances.

DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Kajiado County Government and other stakeholders\, we celebrated the International literacy Day at Oloodokilani ward\, Maili 46. \nIn line with the theme\, “Promoting literacy for a sustainable and peaceful Kenyan society.” The event was graced to celebrate the graduation of adult learners. \nHon.Martin Moshisho was the Chief Guest\, he thanked the Ministry of Education for their good work on matters adult education in the County. He also appreciated the effort the elderly learners have put despite the underlying issues such as poverty\, early school dropouts\, and providing their families\, they have not given up on their dreams. \nWe believe an impact was made\, being educated makes us self – reliant\, confident and leads to economic and societal development.

The event was held at Ngong Catholic Church with women from Ngong. \nWith this year’s theme DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for gender equality\, our Guest of Honour\, First Lady Kajiado County H.E Edna Lenku\, said that technology and innovation are powerful tools in promoting gender equality\, especially to our rural communities such as women’s safety\, healthcare\, agriculture\, education and access to finance.\nThrough the County Government and the office of the First Lady\, Kajiado has committed to joining all women and empowering them through innovative technology. \n“Gender is a cross-cutting issue\, so is technology; we should not use technology to take us back by harassing women; let’s use technology to embrace and build each other\,” Dada Digital’s CEO/Founder\, Boniface Gor\, said during the ceremony.\nThe ownership and use of digital tech have substantial potential for the economic empowerment of women and increasing gender equality.
